Bio

Richard Kalan Porter is a singer-songwriter-musician who was born on November 11, 1985 in Irvine, Alberta which is near Medicine Hat.  His family includes his parents, Rick and Janet, and his two younger sisters, Mackenzie and Jordan.  He started singing at a very early age and is a classically trained musician who plays several instruments including the piano, violin and viola. Nickname: Jake, Height 5’11″ (180 cm).

He was first discovered on season 2 of Canadian Idol and on Sept 16, 2004 was crowned the winner. His debut album, 219 days, included the canadian idol song Awake In A Dream which went 8x platinum certified by the Canadian Recording Industry and the best selling debut single for a Canadian artist. He also released a second album Wake Up Living which included  Walk On Home which was used on Canadian Idol as the theme elimination song.

At present Kalan resides in Toronto, Ontario and is working on releasing a third album.
